Introduction

The “in-depth electrical machines” course aims to establish the general electromechanical energy conversion equations applied to synchronous, induction and direct current machines and determine their characteristics in static or variable states. This makes it possible in particular to take into account the association of machines with static converters.

Content of the course:

  • Chapter 1: Basics of electromechanical conversion
  • Chapter 2: Synchronous machines
  • Chapter 3: Induction machines
  • Chapter 4: Direct current machines

1. Informations on the course :

Target audience: 1st year Master’s degree

Course title: In-depth electrical machines (Machines électriques approfondies)

Semester: 1

Credit: 4

Coefficient : 2

Term: 15 weeks.

2. Prerequisites

Single-phase and three-phase electrical circuits, Calculation of powers. Calculation of magnetic circuits. Single-phase and three-phase transformers, direct and alternating current electrical machines (motor and generator operation).

3. Learning goals

At the end of this course, the student will be able to establish the general electromechanical energy conversion equations applied to synchronous, induction and direct current machines and will be able to determine their characteristics in static or variable states.

This makes it possible in particular to take into account the association of machines with static converters.

4. Learning assessment methods

The final evaluation is done through:

4.1. A final face-to-face exam, which covers all the knowledge seen throughout the semester. This exam, constituting 60% of the final grade, is based on the resolution of problems similar to those covered during the tutorials; and answer questions regarding the different parts of this course.

4.2. Continuous evaluation and ongoing assessment, which accounts for 40% of the final grade, it is counted using several tests and assignments (online and face-to-face) carried out throughout the semester.

5. Operating methods

The course is organized in:

·           Theoretical sessions in which the different developments and demonstrations are presented.

·           Tutorials sessions to solve the different exercises and problems faced at the end of each chapter.

6. Help Resources

Different resources are given in the form of educational videos and books cited in the bibliography where the student is asked to use these resources to deepen the knowledge acquired during this course.
